Rheums for Improvement:
Building Bridges in Evidenced-Based SLE Care

Faculty

Program Overview

The healthcare landscape reveals a stark disparity in the availability of specialized rheumatology care for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) for patients residing in rural regions. This void has resulted in suboptimal treatment strategies, with patients often lacking access to the latest evidence-based interventions and, consequently, experiencing deteriorated health outcomes. Telementoring emerges as a promising solution to this challenge, offering an avenue for rural HCPs to access expert guidance from seasoned specialists in urban centers. This series will address crucial educational gaps, from reducing the over-reliance on glucocorticoids to optimizing the use of newer biologic agents, thereby fostering improved patient care. Furthermore, with an emphasis on enhancing patient adherence and addressing health disparities, the telementoring initiative will elevate the standard of care, ensuring rural SLE patients receive comprehensive, equitable, and quality treatment comparable to their urban counterparts.
